Grim Reaper Gallery

There are references to an angel that delivers the wrath of God in the Bible, Quran, and other religious texts. This angel was portrayed as a normal angel but with darker clothes than the rest. In the medieval era, death was personificated and dubbed as the Grim Reaper. In the 15th Century it adopted the dark, hooded robe persona. The image evolved from the traditional garb of paulbearers at funerals - the dark robes with their heads bowed. Through time, artists took the image if the Grim Reaper to a more horrific level by making the character under the dark robes a rotting corpse, or a skeleton.
